The Joy of Junie

My first introduction to Junie B. Jones came–believe it or not–not in elementary school. Nor in middle school. And definitely not in high school or college.
That’s right: Junie B. Jones found me in my first professional year. Springing into my world as a costume for a school-wide book-character day, Junie has left a lasting impression as one of the cutest first-graders (and second-graders and fourth-graders).
How better to make Junie even more fun than by adding music to her stories? In Junie B. Jones First Ever Musical Edition, this “even more fun” has finally arrived.

Strength

“Strength and honor are her clothing…”

So is the wife of noble character described in Proverbs 31.

Strength and honor…Those are not virtues that I, as a woman, often strive after. More often, I find myself meditating on patience or love or some other feminine-sounding virtue.

The truth is, though, that strength and honor are beautiful apparel for a woman’s heart.

Want to learn more about these? In her book “A Woman of Strength and Purpose,” Cynthia Tobias delves into these virtues, exploring how a woman can cultivate and live out these God-given characteristics in a godly way.

Easter…at Christmas

I know that Christmas is right around the corner (23 days!), but Easter is also on my mind right now. Perhaps it is because Christmas and Easter are integrally connected. Perhaps it is because the warmth of Christmas reminds me of the similar joy at Easter.

Or perhaps it is because–book-lover that I am–I was recently introduced to a book that highlights the stories of several women whose lives were dramatically shaped that first Easter day. Through its focus on the three Marys–Mary of Bethany, Mary of Nazareth, and Mary Magdalene–this book is meant to draw the eyes of women everywhere to their Savior.

I recommend this book for women’s Bible study groups and for personal devotional times.
